Moving a Heavy Drill Press around the Garage

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

We had a call yesterday from a happy owner of BigSlider™ Professional model. He’s just retired and gone to live with his mom to take care of her — what a great son!

He’s going to set up a woodworking shop in the garage and plans to mount the 250+ lb drill press on a piece of plywood. He wants the bottom of the plywood to slide easily along the garage floor so he can move it away from the wall when working with larger pieces of wood. He wondered if BigSlider™ Small Appliance mover would be a good choice.

His plywood is 25 x 29 inches. Since our sheet material can’t be glued down (it’s too slippery to hold glue!), we debated whether he should try screwing in enough furniture sliders to not exceed the load limit per cap. Then he could slide the drill press on to BigSlider™ Professional model. Instead he chose the thinner, more flexible 26 x 31 in  YardPal™. He’ll wrap the ends around the plywood and use a mechanical attachment like screws or nails. We’re shipping some extra sheeting material for reinforcements.

Thanks for the great idea, RD – please send photos!

Alternative to Problems with Pallet Jacks – easily move heavy carpet tiles

Monday, August 29th, 2011

We heard recently from one of the “FREE tool for a video” program we launched with the carpet and tile installers at the CFI conference mid-August. (CFI stands for Certified Floorcovering Installers.) Scott Terryberry of Rocky Mountain Floor Design is  getting ready to install carpet tile in a hospital project just as soon as the floor is ready.

He plans to use his new BigSlider™ Wider model to distribute the heavy 25 in x 25 in boxes of carpet tiles around inside the job site so he doesn’t have to use a pallet jack. His goal is to avoid two problems he’s previously had with pallet jacks on a new install site, namely: (1) the pallet jack can leak oil on the newly installed floorcovering; and (2) if the pallet breaks, splintered wood can damage the new floors.

Awesome Scott – we hope the BigSlider™ “Save Your Back” tool makes your job easier and more productive. Can’t wait to see the video!

BigSlider™ helped move a carpet roll when the forklift was broken

Monday, August 1st, 2011

One of our customers needed to make delivery of a 700 lb carpet roll at Lowe’s when their forklift was broken. He needed to stay on his delivery schedule. Solution? Fortunately he had BigSlider™ utility mover on the delivery truck. They combined a pallet jack with his BigSlider™ Professional model to get the heavy carpet roll delivered.

So…BigSlider™ utility mover has officially gone from the “When nothing else will work“* moving tool to the “When other stuff is broken” moving tool!

Have a safe and productive day, Jeri

*Excerpt from a “When nothing else will work” story…”At first I was not sure what to do with the Big Slider, but now I’m really impressed with it because it worked where nothing else would. There were only two ways we could have moved those logs, a tractor which would have tore up the yard, or the Big Slider. I’m glad I chose Big Slider. It’s a great tool. Thanks for your amazing product.” — MB, TX

How to Move Heavy Stuff with Mag Ruffman

Easily move heavy load of branches

Moving a big load of branches

Mag Ruffman from ToolGirl.com recently showed how to move heavy stuff with BigSlider™ utility mover. Here’s what you’ll see in the video:

Move a heavy load of firewood; move a heavy potted plant; use it to stuff a bag full of detritus – then just remove it when you’re done; easy to load..and unload the car with heavy camping gear – especially joyful!…and drag your husband around when he’s King for the Day.

It’s an alternative to the wheel…and the wheelbarrow! Compare the handcart to BigSlider™ utility mover. “Simple and elegant…it’s a friction-reducer.” Slides over concrete, grass and wood – whatever you need to slide over. Turns on a dime!

Thanks Mag for the great demo! Here’s another link to the show…

Dolly, hand truck and wheelbarrow won’t work | Easily move concrete blocks!

Monday, November 15th, 2010

“Hi and thanks!
Sunday I am picking up 60 – 85lb concrete blocks. The loading will be fairly easy but the delivery is far more complicated since I have to move them over 50+ feet of grass (including downhill over irregular terrain.) Using a traditional dolly simply is not doable.”

Easily move heavy rocks

And, another note from our new home owner in Nova Scotia who is also moving piles of wood chips around his rocky, hilly property…

“This is the reason I thought of the Big Slider. We have so many rocks to move over rough terrain that a wheel barrow would have been a pain.

Even when its loaded to the max. weight, the Slider just flows over the other rocks like a wave.

Regards, AB”

Wow – we love that BigSlider™ heavy duty tray is riding the rocks in Nova Scotia! Thanks for sharing your story and photos, AB! Jeri

Bigslider, What do YOU call it?

Monday, September 13th, 2010

One of the problems that we have in getting the word out about out great product is that it is unique, so no one really knows what to call it. We think of it as a “utility mover” because that is its function. The problem is, who else would ever think of something like that?

When our friend Kent went looking for us, he thought of terms like “sliding plastic mover”, “moving plastic pad” and “plastic or rubber mat” . unfortunately, we had not used those terms to describe the Bigslider™, so he had trouble finding us.

We have been referred to as a cargo slider, custom slider, floor slider, slider mat, dragalong slider, drag-a-long slider, slider mat, heavy item moving mat, sliding mat, moving mat, moving sheet, or sliding plastic sheet. We would like to know about any terms that you might think of that you would use to refer to this great tool. Drop us a note and let us know your ideas and we will post them here to try to help others find this moving tool when they have a need for it.

Carpet Layers helping out!

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Way back in March, I promised to followup on real carpet layers…did you know that most people who’ve heard about BigSlider™ utility movers from someone else found out about it from their carpet layer?

Well, that makes total sense, actually. The homeowner is present when the carpet layer is working inside their house. They see a professional using a professional tool to make his job easier. In fact, it’s so easy to just “TILT. LOAD. SLIDE.” they go to www.bigslider.com to buy their own Professional model!

Now that’s an excellent reference. Keep ‘em coming all you carpet layers out there…and if you’re a carpet layer and you don’t have your own professional furniture moving tool, you can get one at bigslider.com!

Our mission is to “empower anyone to easily move almost anything”
