Move Heavy Store Fixtures without Scratching the Floors

I received a call a few days ago from the manager of a national chain retail store in Michigan. All the wheels had broken off his four way 4 ft high fixtures for hanging clothes.

The employees had previously been dragging the heavy fixtures around the store floor when they needed to move them. That was fine on the old carpet.

Now the store is being renovated and refurbished with new carpet and tile, so the manager wants to protect the new surfaces from scratching, wear and tear. We are custom fabricating a number of 46" x 46" BigSlider™ utility movers for his needs.

Way to go KP, and be sure to share with the carpet layers to save their backs while removing the fixtures. We hope your new flooring and carpets stay looking good for a long time!

Moving a Broken Dishwasher

Last week our dishwasher broke! It should not have surprised us, since I think it was probably 20 years old, but who knew?? Anyway, it was a disaster, with water running all over the floor and us unable to stop it until we finally got the water shut off outside the house. We called for help and our contractor came over (this was about 6:30 in the evening!) and helped us out. He took the dishwasher out from the cabinet and then we had to get it into the garage and out of the way.

There were two of us at that point, so I think we could have handled it, but it did not look like any fun, getting it through the kitchen and breakfast room and over the sill at the door into the garage where it would be out of the way. Then I remembered my Bigslider that I keep stored in the garage next to my washing machine! I ran out to the garage and brought it in and the job was a snap after that.

It was easy to tilt the dishwasher up to get the Bigslider under it. Then I took the handle and dragged it through the house while my contractor assisted with a little pushing from the back. We got it over the sill with no problems and into the garage where you see it on the Bigslider.

Thanks goodness for the Bigslider!! I pulled a muscle in my hip fighting the water, which really flared up a couple of days later. I can only imagine what I might have done wrestling that bulky machine without my Bigslider! I am so glad to have it and it is so convenient to store that I almost forgot it. I know I would have felt terrible if I hurt my back and then remembered this great tool after the fact!

Moving a Hot Water Heater Alone!

Can a single woman move a 165 lb water heater all by herself?

We set out to test this for ourselves and documented the technique.

The people at the store loaded it into the car, so there is no problem there. The problem begins when you get home with the big, heavy item and have to get it into the house for installation.

The pictures on our site illustrate all the steps that it took for one small woman to get the water heater unloaded and onto a BigSlider™ utility mover where it could be easily dragged into the house. With a little maneuvering, it was all pretty easy, with no back strain and no injuries. Without the BigSlider™, it would have been an entirely different story.

How would you have done it?

Moving a heavy old TV out...

I recently upgraded my old TV to a new 42" flat screen model. My Bigslider was used to get the new unit into the house, but the old TV was so bulky I couldn't get it out of the house by myself. When I had a contractor around to help with it, we were able to move it off its stand to my Bigslider so we could drag it out to his car to carry off to the recycle depot.

If Bigslider just came with an extra set of hands, I could have done this job all by myself!

Moving the Big Screen TV!

"Jeri,

I was just getting on line to send you an email - and saw your message. We used our BigSlider for the first time!!!!!!!

I hate to admit that it took so long....but we had the perfect application for it. We bought a new TV and they are heavier than a son-of-a-_______. I automatically thought of the BigSlider. Had to share it with you! Of course, it worked great."

Moving Boxes during Spring Cleaning?

What is your most challenging spring cleaning project?

Whatever it is, it will surely involve moving some heavy stuff around. For me, it is my garage. If I were smart, I would park my cars in my garage, and there would be no room for all the junk that accumulates there. Periodically (not every Spring, I have to admit), I have to get out and clean it up just so I can get through the garage to my car! It is never a happy chore. I still prefer it to doing my taxes, but the government encourages me to get those done!

Anyway, when I get into the task, it always consists of throwing things into boxes until I get them full, at which point I have to move them. It is surprising how heavy they can get in such a short time! With a little thinking ahead of the curve, I can have the boxes set up on my handy BigSlider™ so when the boxes fill, I don't have to lift them to move them. That makes the chore a lot easier on my back and helps me get it done sooner!

Think about how a BigSlider™ can make your springtime more enjoyable and easier and get yours today!

The Perfect Mother’s Day Gift in 2009 for the Woman who has Everything

Mother’s Day 2009 is coming sooner than you think: May 10th is less than two months away. Most moms will tell you they have everything they need – after all they have you! – and say they just want a card. But is that really true?

My mom is now in her 80s, so I’ve been focusing on getting her things she actually needs. For Christmas I bought Channellock® straight-jaw, tongue and groove pliers to open bottles and remove lids. For her birthday, I followed up with the clippers mentioned in My Favorite Tools, the Okatsune brand 7” shears. They’re so awesome she’s not sharing them with my dad, so now I have the perfect Father’s Day gift teed up.

Of course, my parents already have their BigSlider™ utility mover. But enough about us; let’s hear what others have to say about it.
  • "Wanted to let you know that I gave my mother-in-law her slider and she was thrilled. She is a widow with a large yard, pool and garden. She is 72, very active, still works each day, and keeps up her yard and 1 1/2 acres of land....She does most of her outside work herself. She was so glad to have a way to move heavy stuff without hurting her back. Thanks again.” -- DT, Alabama
I also followed up with an avid-gardening customer who received it as a gift from her son. She said,
  • “It’s amazing! I saved 90% of the work by not having to lift soil and pavers into the wheelbarrow.” -- Mrs. S, Iowa
And, for those of you who feel guilty about not being around to help your mom, here’s what one single mom had to say:
  • “I would like to buy the one you let me borrow. It will come in handy around the house esp. since my son moved out and I do not have anyone around to move stuff for me.” -- JLF, Texas
The great thing about BigSlider is that it's truly designed to be a one-person tool. Finally, I received this sweet note from a customer just yesterday.
  • "My mother, who recently passed away at 100 years old, always used a bit of carpet or a throw rug to move furniture around. I wish she was still here to see your wonderful invention...I used the slider a little while ago and it worked beautifully - just like in the videos. Thank you so much." -- CD, Minnesota
So now your question “What do I get Mom for Mother’s Day?” has an easy answer: a BigSlider™ Utility Mover!

Naturally, I have no idea what to get my Mom.

Using Bigslider in Tight Spaces

One of our clients recently had some questions about our products that we want to share with our readers:
  • I would like to know if it would be useful in a storage area of our basement (which we call a crawl-space) because we have to walk very bent over to bring out and take in items which we want to store in that area?? (It is hard to lift things up off the floor and at the same time bend over while walking.)
  • Is the only difference between the "Basic" and the "Professional" an attached handle? For my purpose (see above) would I need that?
  • If ordered, how soon could I receive it?
Thank You for your time.

Here are our answers:
  • BigSlider will be great for your crawl space because its just 1/16" thick, so your items will have the maximum clearance possible and you won't have to carry them.
  • You will still have to bend over to move your items, of course, and the Professional model with the attached handle is the best for the tightest turning radius and the most control. Reason: the rope to extension handle in the Basic model has more "play" between your pull and the movement of the sheet. So the Basic is better for garden applications where tight turns are not as much of an issue.
  • We ship out Priority Mail, and you should receive it in about 5 business days.
I hope this helps! Thanks for your inquiry, Jan.

With a new product like ours, we get a lot of questions about how and where it can be used to provide the most help for you in different situations. We welcome all these questions and will happily answer them, and we look forward to hearing creative uses for our product that we can share with other users.

Moving Truck Rental?

Looking to rent a truck for a moving job? If so, that means that you plan to load and unload the truck yourself, maybe with a group of friends. I did that many times when I was younger, and I remember how much work it was and how quickly my friends found other commitments on moving day.

Getting all of your household goods out of the house and onto the truck is a big job, but unloading and getting everything into your new abode seems even harder. Maybe it is because you have seen all those boxes once already, or maybe it is because all the people who were there to help you load are not around to help you unload. Whatever the reason, anything you can do to make the job easier and reduce the workload is worth looking into. Fortunately, Bigslider is available to make moving all that weight in and out, up and down stairs, and around corners less of a chore! One Bigslider thrown onto the truck as part of your moving equipment can eliminate the need to pick up those heavy things to get them onto a cart, and it takes up no space in the truck. Just lean it up against the wall or stuff it between some of those big boxes of books!

Our Professional Utility Mover will handle several heavy objects at one time, or several boxes of books stacked together. If your space is tight, like moving into a smaller apartment or maybe a dorm room, we have a smaller version in the Yard Pal. This item is small enough to fit through pretty much any interior door without a problem.

Do your self a favor and get one of our movers before you rent that truck!

Shred Documents, Move the Trash Bag

"I work at a home office and must shred reams of confidential documents each month. The BIGSLIDER makes this so easy! I just place a rolled-up BIGSLIDER inside a trash bag, which transforms the bag into a free-standing receptable for all the shreddings. I can empty the shredder into the bag without the struggle of having to use one hand to keep the bag open. When the bag is full, the BIGSLIDER easily and cleanly slides out of the bag and I can then just haul the bag (placing it on the BIGSLIDER if it's too heavy to carry!) to the garbage can. I use the BIGSLIDER in the same manner to collect leaves in the yard. In addition, we have found the BIGSLIDER to be useful in hauling heavy objects around the house or from house to car. BIGSLIDER has made many tasks so much easier!" -- MG, FL

Single Woman Moving Heavy Pots and Furniture -- by Herself

I thought you'd be interested to hear one customer's move from desperation (when she ordered) to solution (after she used BIGSLIDER™ utility mover) -- Jeri

The Order:
"Googled 'plant caddy', saw the lady moving the plant on MySpace or You Tube, can't remember which. I live alone and have run out of friends/relatives to help me move a huge plant to shelter during the winter. I SURE hope this works."
[Note: We're on YouTube's bigslider21 channel. J]

The Feedback:
"Thank you for your quick response to my order of the Bigslider. It arrived just in time for me to move from a 5 BR/4bath house to my new lovely patio home.

I used it once to move some boxes...and it did well except I am not sure I am using the correct side. Is the shiny side supposed to be up or down? Placing the label on the shiny side made me think it should be up...but then shiny usually means slippery so I wasn't sure. [Note: Use either side -- both sides are very slick. J]

BTW, I sold some furniture on Ebay before my move....had assistance from a company in town...I asked [the owner] if she had heard of the Bigslider and she said she had one...and loves it. Nice affirmation."
